1. Hike the Trinity Alps Wilderness
Trinity County is a bit of an off-the-beaten-path destination, but it has more than its fair share of natural wonders. The Trinity Alps Wilderness is one of the most spectacular areas in California's northernmost district, and there are plenty of adventures to be had here.
The Trinity Alps Wilderness is a beautiful area of California that has plenty of hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and horseback riding trails. One of the most popular hikes is the hike to the Trinity Alps Wilderness Summit. This hike takes you up through a canyon to a beautiful view at the top of the mountain range.
2. Fly Fish the Trinity River
Trinity Lake is one of the largest reservoirs in Northern California and it’s also an excellent place for fishing, boating, and swimming during the summer months when there are few people around. The lake itself is an artificial body of water created by Trinity Dam but it was originally used as a reservoir for nearby communities until they switched over to electricity production after World War II ended due to increased demand for electricity nationwide caused by increased industrialization and population growth.
The famous trout rivers of California are a fisherman’s dream come true. The Trinity River is no exception! It has some of the best salmon and steelhead fishing in California. The river flows through many different ecosystems along its length providing habitat for fish species ranging from rainbow trout to chinook salmon and coho salmon to steelhead trout. 3. Mountain Bike on the Trinity Alps Trail System
The Trinity Alps Trail System is one of the most popular mountain biking destinations in Northern California and offers some of the best ridings in the state. The trails are well maintained and offer fantastic views of Mount Shasta and other peaks in this range. If you're looking for an action-packed day on your mountain bike, then this is a trail system worth exploring!

5. Check out Grizzly Lake Falls
The China Gulch Trailhead is the starting point for a backpacking trip to Grizzly Lake, which is where you'll find a waterfall that will blow your mind. Bear in mind that getting to the lake requires a little scrambling and that the first two kilometers of the trek are rather steep. The months of June through October offer the most favorable hiking conditions for this trail.
Located in the heart of the Trinity Alps Wilderness lies the beautiful Grizzly Lake. The lake is famous for the magnificent waterfall that plummets from the top of the water, over the edge of a cliff, and down around 600 feet to a meadow below. Thompson Mountain, the tallest peak in the Trinity Alps, towers over Grizzly Lake, making the surrounding alpine wilderness one of the most breathtaking and isolated in the United States.
5. Visit Weaverville Joss House SHP
The Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park is one of the most popular attractions in Trinity. It is located on the site of a Chinese temple built in 1874 by Chinese immigrants who came to work in the gold mines and own businesses in Trinity during the 19th century. Today, visitors can tour this historic building and learn more about its rich history through interpretive displays that showcase artifacts from the 19th century through today.
6. Take a road trip to Trinity Heritage Scenic Byway
The Trinity Heritage National Scenic Byway is surrounded by water. Several beautiful lakes and rivers in far Northern California are on the route. Driving through Trinity and Siskiyou County, some of the most scenic and mountainous areas in the state await you. A lot of it goes where 19th-century gold miners and settlers went, so there are lots of beautiful mountain panoramas and rugged rocks to take in.
7. Summit Mount Shasta
Mount Shasta is a volcano at the southern end of the Cascade Range within the Trinity, California region. At an elevation of 14,179 feet (4,321.8 meters), it is the second-highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in the state of California. Climbing Mt. Shasta is an unforgettable experience and a perfect first time mountaineering journey for those interested in climbing big snow-covered mountains. And it’s a been a great mountaineering challenge since the days of John Muir! We definitely recommend getting an experienced mountain guide for your first time up the peak.
8. Rent a Houseboat on Lake Shasta
Houseboating is one of the best ways to spend an outdoors vacation, and Shasta Lake is one of the best lakes in the nation for it. In fact, Shasta Lake has been named as one of the top 10 houseboating lakes in the nation, and for good reason. It covers 30,000 acres and offers some of the best fishing in Northern California, with trout, bass, salmon, crappie, sturgeon, bluegill, and many more species of both coldwater and warmwater fish. The lake is also surrounded by 360 miles of stunning mountainous landscape, which includes beautiful waterfalls, impressive caverns, and secluded trails.

9. Whitewater Rafting on the Trinity River
Flowing out of the Trinity Alps, the crystal clear Trinity River is a dam-controlled river with great flows throughout the majority of the year. There truly is something for just about everyone on the Trinity, including both the Class V Burnt Ranch and several long stretches of Class II. We recommend taking a trip with Trinity River Rafting for great time!
