7 Tips for Planning an Adventure Vacation
by Aventura on May 07, 2023
A few years ago, we embarked on an extended roadtrip through the Pacific Northwest. We very quickly learned a lot about the painful process of outdoor trip planning, and decided we were going to build Aventura to make this whole thing way easier. While we’re still launching some of our core features, we thought we’d give our readers some of the high level tips we learned along the way.
The big takeaway? Anyone can plan an awesome vacation or outdoor trip with the right research and preparation – and it’s never too late to learn something new. Check out our top 7 tips for planning your next trip outdoors.
Pick a destination:
Choose places that inspire you. Some of our most memorable adventures resulted from short road trips or day trips in your own neck of the woods. However, if you seek a true adventure, you may need to venture further into the unknown.
Choose an activity:
The location often determines the activity. In eastern Greenland, kayaking is the most viable mode of transportation due to the rugged terrain. Mountain ranges offer numerous adventure options like hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, and paragliding.
Do your research:
Plan your trip meticulously, from the season, weather, exact destination, and any required visas or permits to transportation and accommodation. Other sites like Reddit and Lonely Planet can provide valuable information.
Sort your gear:
Create a list of gear organized by category (e.g., shelter, clothing, camping) and acquire all necessary items. Lay out your gear and pack it up once you've received everything.
Solve problems ahead of time:
Anticipate potential issues and prepare for them. For example, create a field repair kit for your gear or pack backups for critical items.
Be flexible:
Be ready to adapt when things don't go according to plan. If you encounter setbacks, remain calm and find alternative solutions.
Remember why you're there:
Don't let planning, logistics, or mishaps distract you from your adventure's purpose. Focus on the experience and immerse yourself in the spirit of exploration.
