Summer Skiing in California

by Aventura on April 7, 2023

After a historic winter snowfall in California's Sierra Nevada range, ski resorts across Central and Northern California are extending their season into the summer months. Some locations have accumulated over 700 inches of snow this season, making it one of the top two snowiest winters on record.

Mammoth Mountain, which had its snowiest season on record with 704 inches, plans to keep its slopes open until the end of July. Similarly, Palisades Tahoe ski area, with 698 inches of snow, will stay open through Independence Day, its longest season in four years.

Other resorts such as Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar California have opened weeks early and are close to surpassing their all-time snowfall records. However, the wild winter has come at a cost, with many days requiring crews to rescue chairlifts buried by snow, and the resorts having to close three times due to excessive amounts of snow.t of best spots to kayak in California:
