Yosemite’s Mariposa Grove Reopen to Visitors

by Aventura on April 7, 2023

Yosemite National Park's famous Mariposa Grove has reopened to visitors after the winter storms caused temporary closure. The grove was closed for several weeks, and although the park had a limited reopening in mid-March, the grove remained off-limits.

Road crews have now cleared Mariposa Grove Road leading to the giant sequoias, but visitors will have to leave their vehicles behind as only foot traffic is allowed to the Mariposa Grove Arrival Area. The grove remains under deep snowy conditions beyond that point.

Visitors are advised that the hike to the Mariposa Grove is a four-mile round trip with a 500-foot elevation change. The road is very icy, and visitors are encouraged to use traction devices for their shoes.

Due to road damage, vault toilets at the arrival area are currently out of service. The closest restrooms are available at the Mariposa Grove Welcome Plaza near the South Entrance. For those who wish to trek further, a vault or non-flushing toilet is available at the picnic area, which is about 1.3 miles from the welcome plaza.
